A stylish hillside hideaway with tennis, gym, games room and chef on request - perfect for a spoiling Andalucian house party (sleeps 12)

No doubt about it, this fabulous finca, with its two swimming pools, extensive grounds and casually chic interiors, is one of Andalucia’s most seductive holiday homes. Created in the Noughties by a top London restaurateur, renowned hotelier and skilled local craftsmen, it was given a new lease of life in 2022 by a Hamburg-based family. Set on a terraced hillside among olive trees, the ancient farmhouse looks out across the valley to the mountains of the Serranía de Ronda.  All around, the gardens brim with fragrance and colour: verdant lawns, lavender and rosemary, citrus trees, tall cypresses and vibrant bougainvillea.

A soaring, double-height entrance hall with twin staircases sweeping up to the drawing room and master bedroom sets the tone. There are 6 beautifully furnished bedrooms, a games room, snazzy tennis court, private gym and superbly equipped kitchen, perfect for gatherings of family and friends.  A concierge can arrange massages, horse riding and bespoke catering, while Ronda's cobbled streets, tapas bars and dramatic gorge are an easy drive away.  Unmistakably Andaluz, this is a finca of real character, combining laid-back elegance with thoughtful touches and plenty of space to unwind. For an unforgettable gathering in one of southern Spain’s loveliest corners, it's hard to beat.

Highs

    • The layout gives each bedroom its own terrace and plenty of privacy, creating the feel of a mini village
    • 5 acres of terraced gardens, olive groves and vineyards, plus a large infinity pool with stunning mountain views
    • We loved collecting eggs from the chickens and picking organic vegetables for lunch, with the option of a private chef for supper
    • Secluded yet convenient: the finca sits at the end of a quiet country track, with historic Ronda just a 15-minute drive away
    • Good value, particularly outside the peak summer season, given the facilities and space on offer

Lows

    • Only one bedroom, Rose, can be made up with twin beds, but extra beds and cots can be provided
    • Some bedrooms are in separate annexes below the main house, and there are several steps down to the pool area
    • Summer stays need to be booked well in advance
    • A car is essential for getting around and exploring the surrounding area

Best time to go

The warmer months will mean you take advantage of the swimming pools. But this house is a great choice at any time of year: all bedrooms have central heating, and there are open fires and underfloor heating in the living rooms.

Our top tips

The house is often rented by families or groups of friends. And having so many rooms, this could also be a perfect choice for a family with a nanny in tow.

Rooms

The 6 bedrooms, each named after fragrant flora, have an intimate, private feel. Mulberry and Rose are in the main house; the other four are spread across annexes, stepping down the hillside towards the infinity pool and gardens.

The queen bee is Mulberry, reached via a private staircase from the main entrance hall. This spacious bedroom has a queen-size double, a freestanding bathtub and shuttered French windows that open onto a bridge leading to a private pool and terraces. The dressing room includes an extra single bed for a child, while the separate bathroom has a walk-in rain shower.

Rose on the ground floor has lower ceilings but shares the same subdued décor: all white walls, chalky grey shutters and a terracotta tiled floor, pepped up by Moroccan rugs and pops of red. It has a bathtub and a walk-in rain shower in its bathroom, and French windows that lead to a small terrace. It's also the only room with the option of twin beds.

The remaining rooms lie across the cobbled courtyard in the annexes.  Nearest to the house. Lavender feels cosy, with a wood-burning stove in the old hearth, and shares a lovely terrace with Orange Blossom. Both have comfy double beds, freestanding wardrobes and shower bathrooms.  Orange Blossom enjoys long views across the valley, while Lavender looks onto the courtyard.

Further down the steps towards the main pool Hydrangea (new for 2027), is a gorgeous suite and one of our favourites, with a light-filled sitting area, king-size bedroom and generous bathroom with shower and bath.  Furthest from the main house, Lemon shares an annexe with the large games room and second kitchen.  It's a simpler, cosy double room with an adjacent shower room.

All rooms come with Smart TVs, beds dressed in Egyptian cotton sheets and top-spec mattresses, and piles of towels - including a second set for pool use.

  • Bathrobes
  • Central heating
  • Cots available

Eating

The bespoke kitchen is one of the best we’ve come across in a rental property. A central island makes cooking sociable, while a huge, top-of-the-range hob and oven, microwave, ice maker and every conceivable gadget (from blenders to coffee makers), 3 dishwashers and 3 fridges make feeding a crowd a breeze.  The nearby dining room, set in a glass-walled garden room with a built-in barbecue, is perfect for long, leisurely meals.

Basic ingredients, including estate olive oil, vinegars, herbs and spices, are provided. There are small supermarkets in Arriate, 5km away, and larger stores in Ronda. For fine wines, gourmet treats and quality fish and meat, we recommend El Corte Inglés in Málaga - our first stop after leaving the airport. You can also pick vegetables from the garden and collect eggs from your own hens.

We prepared our own breakfasts and lunches (the poolside pergola is ideal in summer), leaving some dinners to the caterers.  Private chefs can provide anything from casual tapas to celebratory feasts, but do book early. We recommend Norbert of Esenc for exceptional, Michelin-standard dining at home, and Leo for traditional suppers, including paella and barbecues.

Prefer to eat out? There are several excellent little restaurants a short drive away, while Ronda offers a tempting choice of tapas bars.
